Summary

The series bears no substantive connection to H. G. Wells’s narrative beyond its title. Set in Britain during the 1950s, it centres on Peter Brady, a principled scientist who remains consistently aligned with the public good. While testing his theory of optical density—proposing that any form of matter could be rendered invisible through complete refraction, Brady becomes invisible when an experimental procedure malfunctions. Unable to reverse the effect, he is forced to continue his life as the Invisible Man.

Initially pursued and detained by government officials, Brady ultimately demonstrates his loyalty, enabling subsequent episodes to depict his efforts to combat various criminal threats on behalf of both acquaintances and national authorities. Underpinning the narrative is Brady’s ongoing search for a means of restoring his 6‑foot‑2‑inch physical form to full visibility.
