Summary
Jericho is a post‑apocalyptic drama centred on the residents of the small rural town of Jericho, Kansas, in the aftermath of coordinated nuclear strikes on major cities across the continental United States. The series opens with a nuclear detonation over Denver, Colorado, followed by the collapse of communications and infrastructure, leaving Jericho isolated.
Although power briefly returns, suggesting intervention by surviving federal authorities, an electromagnetic pulse soon disables all electronics, deepening the town’s crisis. Recurring themes include information scarcity, community identity, civil order, resource management, family cohesion, and the emergence of both internal and external threats. The narrative also incorporates several mysteries involving character histories, the origins of the attacks, and the fate of the U.S. government.
The central figure is Jake Green, a 32‑year‑old prodigal son who returns home for a short visit but becomes stranded when the attacks occur. After a strained reunion with his father, Mayor Johnston Green, Jake gradually assumes a leadership role, helping defend and stabilise the community. Unbeknownst to the townspeople, one resident, Robert Hawkins, possesses extensive knowledge about the nuclear strikes and plays a pivotal role in the unfolding events.
