Summary

Anthology‑style retelling of the Journey to the West narrative, presented in a professional encyclopaedic tone:

Sanzo Hoshi, a Buddhist monk, undertakes a pilgrimage to Tenjiku to retrieve a sacred sutra believed to possess the power to bring peace to the world. Early in his journey he acquires three travelling companions: Sagojo on the first day, Chohakkai on the second, and Son Goku on the third. Their markedly different temperaments lead to frequent quarrels, yet the hardships they face gradually teach them mutual reliance and cooperation.

After several days without food, the group arrives at a town that has been completely destroyed by fire. While investigating the devastation, they encounter a young woman in a wedding gown, followed by a young man and her father. The father is revealed to be Jintan, Sanzo Hoshi’s former mentor, who invites the travellers to dine at his temple. During the meal, Sanzo reprimands Goku and Chohakkai for their gluttonous behaviour and asks Jintan about the fate of the town. Jintan explains that the settlement was razed by the monster Gyumao, who demands the sacrifice of a young woman to prevent further destruction; his own daughter has been chosen as the next offering.

Determined to assist his former teacher, Sanzo devises a plan with his companions. He will disguise himself as the bride and infiltrate Gyumao’s castle, hoping to thwart the monster and save Jintan’s daughter.
