Summary
Fan Xian, born in Southern Qing with memories of the twenty‑first century, grows up in Danzhou as the illegitimate son of the Minister of Finance. His mother, Ye Qingmei, a brilliant inventor who founded both the Inspection and Control Bureau and the Royal Treasury, was assassinated soon after his birth. Protected and trained by Wu Zhu, her blind bodyguard, Fan Xian develops martial and medicinal skills enhanced by his modern knowledge.
An assassination attempt sends him to the capital, where he seeks answers about his mother’s death and the origin of his anachronistic memories. There he meets Lin Wan’er, the Princess Royal’s frail illegitimate daughter, unaware that the Emperor has already chosen her as his bride to position him to take over the Royal Treasury. Fan Xian becomes entangled in imperial politics involving the Emperor, the Crown Prince, the Second Prince, and the Inspection and Control Bureau, prompting him to question his identity and ambitions.
