Summary
Professor Annrak becomes convinced that a destructive underwater creature is responsible for a series of shipwrecks, though others suspect an advanced submersible craft. Determined to uncover the truth, he joins an expedition to investigate the incidents. During an attack by the mysterious vessel, Annrak and two other crew members are thrown overboard and subsequently rescued by the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo, who has renounced the surface world. Fearing that his visitors might reveal his plans if allowed to return to civilisation, Nemo refuses to release Annrak and his companions.
