Summary
K‑9 is set in a near‑future London and centres on Starkey, a 14‑year‑old fugitive, and Jorjie, a similarly aged activist, who become entangled in the work of Professor Gryffen, a scientist conducting experiments with a Space‑Time Manipulator. They are joined by Darius, a resourceful 15‑year‑old who acts as Gryffen’s errand‑runner.
During one of Gryffen’s experiments, K‑9 Mark I pursues the reptilian warrior species known as the Jixen, who emerge through a space‑time portal. K‑9 saves the group but is forced to self‑destruct in the process. Before doing so, he provides Starkey with the instructions necessary to rebuild and regenerate him into a more advanced form.
The regenerated K‑9 subsequently joins Starkey, Jorjie, Darius and Gryffen as the primary line of defence against alien threats originating from both outer space and other points in time.
