Summary
Kamen Rider W (Double) is set in the environmentally conscious city of Futo, nicknamed the Windy City for its iconic windmills and its civic emphasis on ecological harmony. Beneath this idealised surface, the influential Sonozaki Family clandestinely distributes devices known as Gaia Memories, USB‑like artefacts that grant their users monstrous forms called Dopants. Empowered by these Memories, Dopants commit crimes that conventional law enforcement cannot counter.
The series follows Shotaro Hidari, a self‑styled “hardboiled” detective whose inexperience earns him the teasing label “half‑boiled.” Shotaro works alongside Philip, a mysterious young man who possesses the true Gaia Memory and serves as the human repository of the Earth’s Knowledge. Together, they use their own Gaia Memories and the Double Driver to transform into Kamen Rider Double, a single Rider formed from two consciousnesses acting in unison. Their partnership allows them to confront Dopants, investigate the Sonozaki conspiracy, and protect Futo from the escalating misuse of Gaia Memories.
