Summary
Kamen Rider Drive centres on Shinnosuke Tomari, once an elite officer of the Metropolitan Police who is reassigned to the Special Investigations Division after a colleague is gravely injured during a case. The division handles unexplained phenomena, most notably the Density Shift incidents, publicly known as Slowdowns, in which time appears to decelerate, leaving civilians immobilised.
Shinnosuke is chosen by the Drive Driver and the sentient supercar Tridoron, enabling him to transform into Kamen Rider Drive. He becomes the primary defender against the Roidmudes, artificial lifeforms seeking to overthrow humanity and establish their own dominion. Drive’s investigations are supported by Kiriko Shijima, a disciplined officer with deep knowledge of the Roidmudes, and her brother Go Shijima, who fights alongside Shinnosuke as Kamen Rider Mach.
A pivotal figure in the conflict is Chase, a unique Roidmude who once served as the prototype Rider Proto Drive before being reprogrammed into the grim enforcer Machine Chaser. Regaining his sense of justice, he reclaims his Rider identity as Kamen Rider Chaser, fighting to protect humanity despite his origins.
The larger conspiracy is revealed with the return of Tenjuro Banno, Kiriko and Go’s father and the scientist responsible for creating the Roidmudes. Having lost his human body, Banno resurrects himself as Gold Drive, seeking to exploit the surviving Roidmudes and enact a plan to subjugate the world entirely.
