Summary
Takeru Tenkūji, the son of a renowned ghost hunter who died a decade earlier, is killed while defending his childhood friend Akari Tsukimura from an attack by a Ganma ("Eye Demon"). He is subsequently revived by a mysterious hermit, who grants him the Ghost Driver transformation belt and a Ghost Eyecon, an orb‑like device capable of perceiving supernatural entities such as spirits, Ganma, and other Riders. The hermit informs Takeru that his resurrection is temporary: he has ninety‑nine days to obtain fifteen additional heroic Eyecons in order to restore his life permanently. To achieve this, he must battle the Ganma as Kamen Rider Ghost.
Takeru is supported by Onari, a Buddhist monk who previously assisted his father, and Akari, who seeks scientific explanations for their seemingly supernatural encounters. Opposing him is Makoto Fukami, a mysterious young man who also wields a Ghost Driver and transforms into Kamen Rider Specter. Further adversaries include the Ganma forces commanded by Chikara Saionji, an associate of Takeru’s late father, and Alain, son of the Ganma leader, who later acquires the ability to transform into the anti‑hero Kamen Rider Necrom.
The Riders of Kamen Rider Ghost utilise Eyecons to transform and summon Hoodie Ghosts, spectral hooded manifestations representing historical figures such as Miyamoto Musashi, Thomas Edison, Tutankhamun, and Isaac Newton. These entities grant the Riders distinct abilities and combat forms, forming the core of the series’ transformation and power system.
