Summary
Thirteen Advent Card decks were created for thirteen Kamen Riders. Each Rider forms a Contract with a monster from the Mirror World, gaining access to its power in exchange for supplying it with the life force of the creatures they destroy. The architect of the Advent Cards enforces a single rule: only one Kamen Rider may survive. All others must be eliminated, and the final victor will receive a single wish. This conflict is known as the Rider War.
Across the city, civilians are vanishing without trace. While investigating these disappearances, Shinji Kido, an intern at the online news outlet ORE Journal, discovers an Advent Card deck in an apartment where every reflective surface has been covered with newspaper. He is soon drawn into the Mirror World and uncovers the truth: people are being pulled through mirrors by its monsters to be consumed. Shinji is nearly killed by the dragon Dragreder before being rescued by Kamen Rider Knight, Ren Akiyama.
Ren is determined to win the Rider War at any cost. He works alongside Yui Kanzaki, who is searching for her missing brother, Shiro Kanzaki, the mastermind behind the Rider War. Witnessing Ren’s resolve, Shinji joins the conflict not for the promised reward, but to protect innocent people from the Mirror World’s threat and to halt the destructive battles between the Riders.
By forming a Contract with Dragreder, Shinji becomes Kamen Rider Ryuki. Through the Rider War, he learns that not everyone can be saved, that conflict is sometimes necessary to end greater violence, and that achieving one’s deepest wish may demand profound sacrifice.
