Summary
Following the destruction of the Hakaida Gang by Kikaider 01, Gill Hakaida is resurrected by a separate malevolent organisation known as Shadow, commanded by its leader, Big Shadow. Under Shadow’s authority, Gill Hakaida operates alongside four principal operatives: Shadow Knight, a one‑eyed knight‑type android; Zadam, a demon‑like android described as Shadow’s “siamese twin”; and Bejinder, a female counterpart to Kikaider created specifically to eliminate 01.
Shadow pursues the same objective once held by the original Hakaida Gang: the acquisition of the blueprint for the Giant Devil, an ultimate weapon carried by the brothers Akira and Hoshiro. Although Shadow succeeds in completing the Giant Devil, a massive combat robot, it is destroyed by Kikaider and 01 before it can be deployed.
While Kikaider 01 possesses a fully functioning conscience circuit, the narrative introduces a new imperfection embodied in Bijinda, a female robot equipped with a remotely activated pain circuit. When triggered by Shadow, Bijinda experiences severe pain and seeks relief by unbuttoning the third button of her blouse; however, doing so would detonate an explosive device implanted within her body. Ultimately, 01 constructs a conscience circuit for Bijinda, enabling her to break free from Shadow’s control and join him as an ally. Another notable figure is Waruda, a samurai‑themed android who adheres to bushidō and, lacking a conscience circuit, develops human‑like emotional attachment toward Bijinda.
Gill Hakaida is destroyed twice, first by 01, and later by Bijinda’s chest‑mounted sonic waves, but is repaired each time by Shadow. He is eventually defeated by the combined efforts of Bijinda, Kikaider 01, and Kikaider. Shadow attempts a third restoration, but before Gill Hakaida can be revived, Dr. Kōmyōji sabotages the regeneration apparatus, causing the destruction of Shadow’s headquarters and the death of Big Shadow. The remaining Shadow operatives, including Gill Hakaida, are subsequently eliminated through the combined strength of 01, Kikaider, and Bijinda.
