Summary
In the year 2020, Britain has fractured into Northern and Southern territories following a period of national upheaval. London has been destroyed, and Winchester has been designated the new capital. The monarchy has been overthrown, and the fate of the King of England remains unknown.
From the devastation emerges a new authoritarian regime: the Knights of God, a militarised and quasi‑religious ruling order commanded by Prior Mordrin, a ruthless dictator who enforces obedience through indoctrination and operates a network of re‑education camps. At one such facility, two teenagers, Gervase Edwards, already subjected to the Knights’ mind‑altering programme, and Julia, who has resisted it, meet and form a bond.
The pair eventually escape and join the expanding resistance movement opposing Mordrin’s regime. Their objective becomes twofold: to locate the rightful King of England and to assist in restoring legitimate rule to the country.
