Summary
Isomori Akira and Sonoko have been married for five years, though their relationship has settled into a distant and emotionally subdued routine. Their lives are irrevocably altered when Akira undergoes a near‑fatal incident that results in a profound physiological transformation: his body becomes that of a woman while his consciousness and sense of self initially remain male. Confronted with this unexpected change, Akira must learn every aspect of living as a woman and gradually comes to understand the social, physical, and psychological challenges that accompany his new existence.
Sonoko is shocked by her husband’s condition but refuses to consider separation. Instead, she resolves to support Akira through the transition, teaching him how to navigate daily life and helping him adapt to his altered identity. As they spend more time together, Sonoko realises that their communication has deepened and that she has rediscovered the significance of Akira’s presence in her life.
Over time, both Akira and Sonoko recognise that Akira’s internal identity is shifting as well; he begins to experience emotions and instincts that align increasingly with womanhood. This development leaves Akira uncertain about whether he is still a man or has become a woman in both body and mind. Sonoko, in turn, must confront her own doubts, questioning whether she can continue to love Akira as a woman and whether a shared future as two women is possible.
