Summary
Author Kurt Vonnegut served as host of the series, introducing dramatized adaptations of several short stories from his 1968 collection Welcome to the Monkey House.
Among the science‑fiction narratives presented was “The Euphio Question”, in which a physicist uncovers extraterrestrial radio signals capable of inducing overwhelming euphoria, a sensation that proves dangerously addictive. Another featured story, “EPICAC”, centres on a researcher developing an early form of artificial intelligence; he attempts to impress his colleague with poetry generated by the computer, unaware that the machine itself has developed romantic feelings for her.
The episode based on “Fortitude” depicts a physician who prolongs the life of an elderly woman by systematically replacing her organs with mechanical components, a procedure that ultimately leaves her immobilised and despairing of continued existence.
