Summary
During the American Civil War, five Union prisoners and their dog effected an escape from a Confederate facility in Richmond by commandeering a balloon. After being carried off course by a violent storm, the group was deposited on an uncharted island, where they were compelled to confront its unfamiliar environment and determine the means of their survival.
