Summary
Set in post–Civil War Texas, the series follows an amnesiac who claws his way out of a shallow grave, dressed in a Confederate uniform and carrying a U.S. Army revolver. Haunted by fragmented memories of being assaulted by a man wearing a derby hat, he adopts the name Lazarus, invoking the biblical figure restored to life in John 11:41–44. Determined to uncover his identity and the circumstances that led to his burial alive, he embarks on a quest across a fractured and unsettled frontier.
As Lazarus pieces together his past, the recurring memory of the derby‑clad assailant becomes central to his investigation. His journey gradually reveals connections to the final days of the Civil War and the political turmoil surrounding the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
