Summary
Brian Finch, a 28‑year‑old underachieving musician, is exposed to NZT‑48, an experimental nootropic that grants him full access to his brain’s cognitive capacity. For a twelve‑hour period after ingestion, Finch attains exceptional intellectual acuity, including total autobiographical recall, accelerated analytical reasoning, and the ability to synthesise disparate information into rapid, high‑level insights.
Through the intervention of Senator Eddie Morra, Finch receives an experimental immunity injection designed to counteract NZT’s otherwise fatal physiological effects. Operating under this concealed advantage, he becomes an asset to FBI Special Agent Rebecca Harris, applying his chemically enhanced cognition to assist in federal investigations. The FBI remains unaware of the immunity treatment, compelling Finch to maintain a precarious separation between his official duties and his covert association with Morra.
