Summary
The series portrays Logan and Jessica fleeing the City of Domes and subsequently being pursued by Francis (Randolph Powell) and other Sandmen. After discovering the SolarCraft, a futuristic hovercraft‑like vehicle located within the ruins of Washington, D.C., the fugitives begin a journey across a post‑apocalyptic United States in search of Sanctuary. Their travels bring them into contact with a variety of unusual human communities, autonomous robots, and extraterrestrial beings.
The domed city, together with the Carrousel sequence, appears only in the pilot and two additional episodes, utilising recycled footage from the original film. In a departure from both the novel and the cinematic adaptation, the television series depicts the city as secretly governed by a clandestine council of elderly citizens. This ruling cabal promises Francis elevation to the status of city elder, and thus exemption from the age‑30 termination rule, should he succeed in recapturing Logan and Jessica.
During their travels, Logan and Jessica are accompanied by an android named Rem (Donald Moffat), whom they encounter in a technologically advanced city administered entirely by robots.
