Summary
Yuka Misaki, the daughter of a florist, briefly meets university student Akio Asami, but they lose contact after Asami’s phone is stolen. One year later, Yuka begins working at her father’s shop and Akio becomes a mathematics teacher at Motokura High School. During a visit to the school, the two meet again shortly before a major earthquake transports the building and its occupants, including several students, into a future desert landscape.
With limited resources and no clear explanation for their displacement, the group attempts to maintain order and adapt to their surroundings. A series of anomalous events, including an unexpected solar eclipse and the appearance of a train inconsistent with their time period, leads them to conclude that they have been moved into the future and may be expected to alter it.
As environmental conditions gradually shift, culminating in a volcanic eruption that restores natural resources, the group learns the importance of environmental stewardship. Through sustained efforts to cultivate vegetation, the barren desert surrounding the school eventually transforms into a thriving landscape, symbolising their success in changing the future.
