Summary
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The series follows several interconnected storylines across Elven, Dwarven, Human, and Harfoot societies during a period of relative peace that is gradually overshadowed by the resurgence of ancient evil. Central to the narrative is the elf Galadriel's determination to uncover the return of the Dark Lord Sauron, whose influence threatens the stability of Middle-earth.
As political tensions grow among the kingdoms and peoples of the world, ambitious rulers, craftsmen, and warriors become entangled in events that reshape the course of history. The island kingdom of Númenor faces internal divisions over its relationship with Middle-earth, while Elven leaders seek new means to preserve their realms from decline. At the same time, a mysterious stranger arrives from the heavens, and dark forces begin to gather in the Southlands, foreshadowing the rise of a new power.
The series chronicles the gradual return of Sauron and the deception through which he manipulates the peoples of Middle-earth to further his ambitions. These events lead to the forging of the Rings of Power, the emergence of Mordor, and the growing conflict between the forces of light and darkness. As alliances are tested and ancient rivalries reawakened, the foundations are laid for the struggles that will define the later history of Middle-earth.
