Summary
Adapted by Angus MacVicar from his own 1952 radio drama, the narrative follows a diverse group of travellers undertaking a voyage to the lost planet Hesikos aboard a spacecraft driven by an atomic propulsion system that expels electrically charged droplets of water through six large jets. The expedition is led by the resolute scientist Lachlan McKinnon, accompanied by his assistant Lars Bergman, engineer Spike Stranahan, secretary Janet Campbell, cook Madge Smith, and McKinnon’s sixteen‑year‑old nephew Jeremy Grant.
In addition to the inherent hazards of interplanetary travel , including a meteorite barrage , the crew must contend with the competing ambitions of the antagonist Hermanoff before ultimately reaching their destination.
