Summary
At the dawn of the twentieth century, a band of British adventurers , led by the visionary scholar Professor George Challenger , undertakes an expedition to verify the existence of an isolated lost world. The party, composed of individuals whose motives are not always entirely altruistic, includes Challenger’s academic rival Professor Arthur Summerlee, financier Marguerite Krux, renowned big‑game hunter Major Lord John Richard Roxton, and journalist Edward T. Malone.
Their hot‑air balloon crashes in the Amazon rainforest on an uncharted plateau where prehistoric life, including dinosaurs and pterosaurs, has survived. The group receives assistance from Veronica Layton, a resourceful young woman whose parents , members of a scientific research team , vanished under mysterious circumstances eleven years earlier.
The adventurers confront a wide array of threats as they search for a means of escape, including carnivorous dinosaurs, sabre‑toothed cats, aggressive ape‑people, cannibalistic tribes, barbarian factions, lizard‑like humanoids, occult practitioners, poachers, and numerous other hazards. Each episode typically presents two parallel storylines, detailing simultaneous challenges faced by the group.
