Summary
Dr. Miles Hawkins is a distinguished and affluent Black research scientist who becomes paralysed after a bullet injury to his spine. Determined to restore his mobility, Hawkins develops an advanced exoskeleton that enables him to walk and confers enhanced physical strength. Designated M.A.N.T.I.S. , an acronym for Mechanically Augmented Neuro‑Transmitter Interception System, the suit serves as both a medical aid and a technological platform for crime prevention.
Although Hawkins harbours a deep aversion to firearms and violence, he equips the suit with non‑lethal knockout darts to incapacitate opponents safely. Working in conjunction with the Chrysalid, a sophisticated multi‑environment vehicle capable of both flight and underwater travel, Hawkins undertakes efforts to prevent an escalating gang conflict from engulfing the city.
