Summary
In the early 22nd century, Earth experienced a period of dramatic and rapid geological upheaval. The planet’s tectonic plates shifted violently, reshaping continents and causing widespread devastation. These events, later referred to as the Great Shift or Great Chaos, entered cultural memory as both myth and legend. The global population was drastically reduced, and much of humanity’s former civilisation collapsed. Although remnants of earlier technology persisted, societal structures regressed; slavery became commonplace, and bandit groups roamed the highways.
Maddigan’s Quest follows the travelling circus troupe Maddigan’s Fantasia, originating from the city of Solis. Each year, the troupe departs Solis to perform and sustain its livelihood. However, their latest expedition carries a critical mission: to obtain a replacement Solar Converter, the city’s sole power source, which is nearing failure. Central to this undertaking is Garland Maddigan, a fourteen‑year‑old performer and the last surviving member of the Maddigan family line.
During the troupe’s journey, two boys, Eden and Timon, and their infant sister appear from the future. Eden’s illusionary abilities prove beneficial to the Fantasia, while Timon conceals a dangerous secret that threatens the troupe, their mission, and the future stability of Solis itself.
