Summary
The series follows Asahina Mahiru, a university student and social media influencer who enters the secret nation of Malkut while searching for a missing senior. There, she discovers a hidden society built around cloned individuals who were created from people abducted from the modern world and employed as a labour force.
In Malkut, both the original individuals and their clones are implanted with devices known as Nodes, which continuously monitor and record their emotions and actions. The technology enables the authorities to maintain a highly regulated society in which personal freedoms are restricted and individuals are evaluated according to quantifiable measures.
Before long, Mahiru herself is classified as an original and becomes subject to the same system of surveillance and control. As she struggles to adapt to the rules governing Malkut, she seeks to uncover the truth behind the nation's existence while searching for a way to return to her own world.
