Summary
Stirling, previously known for her dynamic performance as the whip‑wielding protagonist in Zorro’s Black Whip (1944), is presented here in a markedly more traditional and passive capacity, embodying the frequently imperilled heroine. In partnership with criminologist Bailey, she undertakes a search for her missing father, Taylor, a scientist responsible for developing a radiatomic power transmitter. Taylor has been abducted by Barcroft, a domineering antagonist who assumes the identity of the notorious pirate Mephisto through the use of a transformation device , a mechanised chair situated amid an array of electrical apparatus that, aided by a dissolve effect, converts any subject into Barcroft’s likeness.
