Summary
Maniac centres on Annie Landsberg and Owen Milgrim, two unrelated individuals who become connected through their participation in an experimental pharmaceutical trial conducted by Neberdine Pharmaceutical Biotech (NPB). Designed as a twelve‑subject study intended to explore the boundaries of psychological treatment, the programme exposes its participants to a series of immersive and destabilising hallucinatory experiences.
Initially supervised by Dr. Robert Muramoto and Dr. Azumi Fujita, the trial later comes under the direction of its original architect, Dr. James K. Mantleray, whose unconventional methods and eccentric demeanour shape the course of the experiment. As the procedure progresses, Annie and Owen are drawn into a succession of elaborate, psychologically charged dreamscapes that compel them to confront personal trauma, identity, and emotional dependency.
