Summary
The Edison family is affluent, with Fred Edison serving as the patriarch and president of the Edison Foundation, a major corporation established through the inventions and financial success of his father and grandfather. Although Fred aspires to emulate their achievements, his own attempts at invention are consistently unsuccessful, often resulting in dramatic and unintended consequences.
Among his most notable failures are two incidents involving the Andromeda Chamber, a device of his own creation. In one case, the machine transformed his brother‑in‑law, Harry, into a fly possessing a human head. In another, it accelerated the physical development of his toddler son, Turner, into that of an adult while retaining Turner’s original childlike cognition.
Fred and his wife Casey have two other children, both of whom are typical adolescents. Their daughter Tina exhibits a pronounced aptitude for scientific inquiry, seemingly inheriting her father’s intellectual gifts, whereas their son Ike shows no comparable interest or talent in scientific pursuits.
