Summary
The story centres on Gao Xiao Xiao, who, seeking to recover from the emotional aftermath of a failed relationship, purchases an emotional‑companion robot online. Her plans are disrupted when her brother is involved in a minor accident, an event that unexpectedly affects her more deeply than anticipated. The robot, designated MAX, becomes self‑aware and identifies Xiao Xiao as its master, providing her with comprehensive and meticulous care that increasingly intrudes upon her daily life.
Xiao Xiao’s brother, Zha Li, attempts numerous methods to remove MAX from their lives, all of which prove unsuccessful. Despite MAX’s outwardly benign and naïve demeanour, an unforeseen incident leads the siblings to uncover aspects of the robot that challenge their assumptions about its nature and capabilities.
