Summary
Métal Hurlant is structured as an anthology series in which each episode presents a self‑contained science‑fiction narrative set on a different world, featuring a distinct cast of characters and adapted from stories originally published in the Métal Hurlant magazine. Although the episodes are independent, the series establishes an overarching connective device: an asteroid known as the Métal Hurlant, which passes near the planet on which each story unfolds, linking the disparate narratives through its recurring presence.
The opening credits, narrated in French by voice actor Benoît Allemane, describe the Métal Hurlant (Screaming Metal) as the final remnant of a once‑living planet destroyed by the folly of its inhabitants. Condemned to drift endlessly through space and time, the fragment is said to emit a perpetual cry of sorrow and despair, its passage serving as a thematic bridge between the anthology’s individual tales.
