Summary
Metal Mickey is a British sitcom centred on the Wilburforce family, an otherwise typical household distinguished by the presence of a domestic robot named Metal Mickey. The family comprises Mother and Father, whose given names are never specified, their three children, Haley, Steve and Ken, and Father’s mother, Granny. Mickey is constructed by the youngest son, Ken, portrayed as a scientific prodigy.
Originally designed to assist with household tasks, Mickey soon develops a distinct personality. Standing approximately five feet tall, he is powered by atomic thunderbusters, a fictional energy source frequently treated humorously as a form of confectionery. Despite his benevolent intentions, Mickey’s efforts often lead to unforeseen complications within the household.
Unlike conventional robots reliant solely on technology, Mickey is depicted as possessing magical abilities. These powers enable him to undertake actions beyond the scope of ordinary machines, including travelling through time, exhibiting allergies and assuming the role of a “fairy godmother” to Haley and Steve. The series blends domestic comedy with light science‑fiction elements, presenting Mickey as both helper and catalyst for the Wilburforces’ misadventures.
