Summary
Yoshirō Kamogawa, a student at East Mikawa High School in Aichi Prefecture, discovers that he possesses latent psychic abilities. As the narrative progresses, he learns that his childhood friend Miyuki shares his gift for telepathy, while several other residents of the town exhibit distinct extrasensory powers. Mr. Teru, proprietor of the local Seahorse Café, demonstrates telekinesis; senior student Yōsuke Enomoto is capable of teleportation; the socially isolated Yabe displays clairvoyance; and Hideo is identified as a psychometer. Additional faculty members, including Ms. Natsume and Mr. Hayashi, also possess telekinetic abilities, while the enigmatic Pao exhibits the capacity to hypnotise others. Numerous townspeople are gradually revealed to have similar powers.
Although many individuals employ their abilities for frivolous or morally dubious purposes, Yoshirō aspires to use his own powers altruistically. His immediate goal is to protect Sae Asami, a transfer student from Tokyo for whom he harbours romantic feelings, and his broader ambition is to prevent global catastrophe. Concurrently, two ESP researchers, academics previously dismissed by Tokyo University, arrive in the town to investigate the emergence of these abilities and to safeguard the community from hostile psychics who threaten its survival.
