Summary
Misfits of Science is a comedy‑adventure series centred on a group of would‑be superheroes employed by the Humanidyne Research Corporation. The organisation recruits individuals born with unusual abilities, identified by Humanidyne’s Human Investigation Team led by Dr. Hayes and Dr. Lincoln. Lincoln himself is one of the misfits: normally 7 feet 4 inches tall, he possesses the ability to shrink to a height of approximately eight inches. The team also includes Johnny Bukowski (Johnny B.), a former rock musician capable of discharging electrical energy from his fingertips, and Gloria Dinallo, an ex‑juvenile delinquent with telekinetic powers.
Throughout the series, additional candidates with minor or impractical abilities appear and attempt to join the team, though they are consistently rejected. The purpose of the group varies depending on perspective: Humanidyne’s director, Dick Stetmeyer, views their activities as a means of generating publicity and financial benefit for the corporation, whereas Dr. Hayes and Dr. Lincoln regard their work as a way for the misfits to achieve social acceptance through acts of heroism.
