Summary
Miley, known affectionately within her family as Momay, is the daughter of the proprietors of the amusement park La Vida Funland. Following the death of her father from a brain tumour, her mother Shirley assumes full responsibility for the household and the operation of the park. During this period, Shirley confronts a series of operational difficulties, including a workplace accident that results in the death of an employee. In retaliation, the employee’s husband attacks the family home and sets it ablaze, an incident that leaves Momay comatose. Although he maintains a plea of not guilty, the consequences of the fire remain central to the family’s subsequent misfortunes.
Shirley’s sister‑in‑law Hillary, who harbours ambitions of taking control of La Vida Funland, later disconnects Momay’s life‑support system, causing her death. Overwhelmed by grief, Shirley disappears without explanation, leaving her son Justin under Hillary’s guardianship.
Upon her death, Momay enters a state of purgatory, where she petitions for the opportunity to return to Earth in order to resolve the unresolved matters of her former life. Restored in the form and mindset of a child, she reappears fifteen years after her passing, unaware of the time that has elapsed. She soon encounters Andrew, a timid young boy who becomes her companion. Together, they undertake the task of locating Momay’s surviving family members and restoring stability and harmony to their lives.
