Summary

Centuries in the past, Earth was regarded as a rich and desirable realm, prompting the expansionist ruler Shao Kahn to seek its annexation into Outworld. To defend the planet, the Mortal Kombat tournament was established, its outcome determining Earthrealm’s fate through combat between champions of both realms. Five hundred years earlier, the monk warrior Kung Lao defeated Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn’s sorcerer, and spared his life, leading Shao to imprison Shang Tsung in the cobalt mines.

Kung Lao was then tasked with preparing new defenders who would ultimately sacrifice themselves for Earthrealm. He formed an alliance with Siro, a former bodyguard, and Taja, an ex‑thief, creating a close partnership between the two. In the enigmatic city of Zhuzin, the trio is guided by the thunder god Raiden as they confront threats from both Outworld and Earthrealm, including the imprisoned Shang Tsung, who vows revenge for his earlier defeat, and Vorpax, a seductive and manipulative figure with her own agenda.
