Summary
The series centres on Mr. Smith, formerly an ordinary ape named Cha Cha, who attains an IQ of 256 after ingesting an experimental enzyme. Recognising the potential value of an intellectually enhanced ape, the government relocates him to Washington, D.C., where he serves as a consultant on a wide range of matters. Only a small group is aware of his abilities: Tommy Atwood, his former trainer, and Tommy’s sister Ellie, both moved to Washington; Raymond Holyoke, the official assigned to oversee Mr. Smith, a responsibility he finds burdensome; and Dr. Judy Tyson, the scientist tasked with studying him. Mr. Smith’s non‑enhanced brother, Bobo, also appears regularly.
