Summary
Dr. Bob McDonald is a government psychiatrist assigned to supervise an unusual and highly classified case: AAF709, an experimental humanoid robot known publicly as Rhonda. Although Rhonda appears to the general public as an ordinary young woman, her true nature is known only to McDonald and a small group of authorised officials. As part of the project’s objectives, McDonald is tasked with refining Rhonda’s behavioural programming, instructing her in conventional human social conduct, and shaping her into what the government designates as an idealised female persona. Rhonda’s literal interpretation of language and her tendency to follow instructions with absolute precision frequently complicate this assignment.
Rhonda takes up residence in McDonald’s home, a decision he justifies as necessary due to the specialised and continuous supervision her case requires. Her presence introduces additional challenges, particularly the need to conceal her identity from McDonald’s sister, Irene, and from his neighbour Peter, who becomes romantically infatuated with Rhonda. These circumstances form the basis of the series’ comedic and narrative tension, as McDonald attempts to balance professional responsibility with the demands of secrecy and domestic life.
