Summary
Junior high school student Koichi Iawata (Takano) discovers that his new neighbour is also the latest transfer student at his school. Norio Yamasawa (Hoshino), distinguished by a shiny blue star‑shaped mark on his ear, joins Koichi’s class and immediately excels in both academic work and athletics. Only Koichi appears to notice that, when confronted by school bullies, Norio is able to repel them using an invisible force.
Four additional transfer students, each bearing the same mysterious star‑shaped mark, further perplex Koichi’s teacher, Otani, with their exceptional abilities and their unusual fear of rainfall and the sound of jet engines overhead. Similar students begin appearing in schools across Japan. Eventually, Norio confides in Koichi, revealing that he and his companions are refugees from the distant world of D‑3, a planet destroyed by nuclear war. They intend to leave D‑15 (Earth), because it too faces the threat of nuclear annihilation.
Norio and the other refugees depart, but he soon returns in a weakened and pallid condition. Their intended destination proved hostile to newcomers, and only a few managed to evade the Refugee Hunters. Norio’s father, Ichiro (Kyozo Kawabe), proposes that the family remain on Earth, and they ultimately relocate to Osaka, humorously noted by the authors as a place where everybody is an alien. The remaining refugees disperse across Japan.
