Summary
Forty American college students participating in a Southeast Asia cultural‑exchange programme become stranded on the remote South Pacific island of Bomano after their plane crashes. Formerly designated as an atomic‑test site, the island contains a rudimentary settlement left behind by the Atomic Energy Commission. Isolated thousands of miles from established shipping routes, the castaways recognise that survival requires the creation of a self‑sufficient community. For them, it is effectively “Year One.”
