Summary
A children’s science‑fiction mystery horror narrative centred on two runaway children, Peter and Maggie. The pair first encounter one another when Maggie attempts to steal a supply of chocolate bars, an effort that fails and forces them into an uneasy alliance. Their journey takes a dramatic turn when they accidentally fall into a grave within a rural farm cemetery. Upon regaining consciousness, they find themselves in the custody of the Piper family.
As the children attempt to understand their situation, increasingly anomalous events occur. An asteroid is reported to be on a collision course with Earth, and Peter and Maggie appear to be uniquely positioned to prevent the impending catastrophe. The antagonist, Ish Murdie, plays a significant role in escalating the crisis and nearly triggers global destruction. The Piper family subsequently flees, leaving the children to confront Mimrod, a further threat connected to the unfolding disaster.
