Summary
The protagonist, Chloe King, is a sixteen‑year‑old who discovers that she possesses a range of feline‑derived abilities, including enhanced speed, strength, hearing, agility, and night vision. She also exhibits retractable, claw‑like nails and an innate capacity to perceive human emotions. Central to her powers is the mythic attribute of nine lives, a trait that marks her as distinct within her world.
Upon becoming aware that she is being followed by a mysterious observer, Chloe learns that she is a direct descendant of the Mai, an ancient race with cat‑like characteristics. Guided by Jasmine and Alek, she is informed that her unique status, particularly her possession of nine lives, identifies her as the Mai’s prophesied protector. As such, she is believed to be the only individual capable of safeguarding the Mai from human assassins who have pursued them for millennia.
