Summary
The narrative begins at the Hayate Ninja School, where three junior trainees, Yousuke Shiina (Shun Shioya), Nanami Nono (Nao Nagasawa), and Kouta Bitou (Kouhei Yamamoto) , are undergoing specialised instruction in ninjutsu. Although regarded as the least proficient members of their cohort, their status inadvertently spares them when the academy is attacked by the extra-terrestrial ninja clan Jakanja, commanded by the warlord Tao Zanto. The assault results in the destruction of the Hayate School and the capture of its students.
The school’s headmaster, Mugensai Hinata (Ken Nishida), evades capture by transforming himself into a hamster, though he subsequently proves unable to reverse the metamorphosis. His daughter, Oboro Hinata (Seiko Takada), rescues the three surviving trainees and brings them to her subterranean operations centre. There she equips them with the Hurricane Gyros, advanced transformation devices originally intended for the academy’s top students, granting the trio the ability to become the technologically enhanced Hurricangers.
Early in the series, the Gouraiger brothers, Ikkou and Isshu Kasumi (Yujiro Shirakawa and Kyo Nobuo), are introduced as elite pupils of the rival Ikazuchi Ninja Academy. Motivated by a longstanding institutional rivalry, they seek to demonstrate their superiority by defeating the Hurricangers. The storyline later expands with the arrival of the enigmatic Gozen (Hitomi Miwa) and her masked guardian Shurikenger, who would go on to become one of the franchise’s most popular sixth‑ranger characters.
