Summary
Photojournalist Tom Veil enjoys a seemingly enviable life, marked by a successful career and a stable marriage to his wife, Alyson. His professional achievements culminate in a prestigious exhibition showcasing his award‑winning work. During a celebratory visit to the couple’s preferred restaurant, Veil briefly excuses himself, only to return and discover that his entire identity has been inexplicably erased. Alyson has vanished, the table is occupied by strangers, and the staff deny any knowledge of him.
The disorientation intensifies upon his arrival home. His key no longer fits the lock, Alyson fails to recognise him, and a man claiming to be her husband forces him from the property. Veil soon realises that he is the target of a coordinated conspiracy involving individuals from every part of his life, including family members, law enforcement, casual acquaintances, and even his own dog.
The catalyst appears to be a photograph titled Hidden Agenda, depicting an execution in a Central American jungle. The image has disappeared from his studio, and its absence suggests a connection to the forces pursuing him. Compelled to flee, Veil embarks on a solitary quest to uncover the truth behind the plot, restore his identity, and determine whom, if anyone, he can trust.
