Summary
Prairie Johnson, a young woman adopted in childhood, reappears after having been missing for seven years. On her return she identifies herself as the OA (original angel), exhibits unexplained scars on her back, and has regained her sight despite having been blind prior to her disappearance. She declines to disclose to federal investigators or her adoptive parents the circumstances of her absence or the means by which her vision was restored. Instead, she recruits a group of five local residents, four high‑school students and a teacher, to whom she relates her personal history and the events surrounding her captivity. She ultimately enlists their assistance in an effort to locate and rescue other missing individuals, asserting that she can reach them by opening a portal to another dimension.
