Summary
October Faction centres on Fred and Deloris Allen, a married couple employed as monster hunters, and their twin teenage children, Geoff and Viv. Following the death of Fred’s father, Samuel Allen, the family returns to their hometown of Barrington‑on‑Hudson, New York, to arrange the funeral. Fred is unsettled by the visit, confronted by unresolved childhood trauma involving his brother’s death and long‑standing conflicts with his parents regarding his perceived inadequacies and personal choices.
Upon their return, Geoff and Viv begin exhibiting emerging supernatural abilities. During an impromptu séance, Viv experiences visions of a long‑haired creature chained to the ocean floor and struggling to escape. Geoff inadvertently reveals a teacher’s deeply personal secret in front of classmates, an incident that leads to further ostracism by the school’s dominant social groups.
Fred and Deloris are operatives of Presidio, a clandestine organisation dedicated to protecting humanity from various species of monsters. Their assignment requires them to conceal their identities and maintain the appearance of an ordinary family within the community. This proves increasingly difficult as unusual and threatening events begin to unfold throughout the town.
