Summary
Kohiruimaki Yuichi is a police officer who establishes the Science Crime Countermeasures Office, a specialized department dedicated to addressing incidents involving advanced scientific and technological developments. He appoints Mogami Yukiko, a highly skilled scientist, as an advisor responsible for analysing and investigating cases rooted in cutting‑edge scientific fields.
The department handles crimes that exceed the capacity of existing legal frameworks and conventional police procedures. Rather than focusing solely on forensic analysis, Kohiruimaki and Mogami examine the scientific principles underlying each case, seeking to uncover the mechanisms that enable such offences. Hasebe Tsutomu, a veteran detective formerly of the Investigation Division, joins the team; although unfamiliar with scientific disciplines, he contributes extensive field experience and investigative intuition.
