Summary
Ben and Katherine establish connections with companions and allies drawn from multiple parallel universes. Although the Parallax comprises billions of distinct worlds, the narrative focuses primarily on five principal realms. Their travels through these universes eventually lead them to a world reduced to a desolate ruin, prompting the realisation that a significant and imminent threat exists within the Parallax.
The siblings learn that the knowledge required to safeguard their worlds may reside within the Reading Room, a repository to which the Guardians have lost access. Following the unexplained disappearance of their mother, Ben and Katherine undertake a quest to locate both her and the missing key that unlocks the Reading Room. Their journey brings them into contact with the Mother of all Welkin, swarms of purple insectoid creatures known as Krellicks, the formidable 'Aunt Betti, and the enigmatic figure referred to as the Lost Guardian.
