Summary
The Passage centres on Project Noah, a clandestine medical installation in which researchers investigate a highly volatile virus believed to possess the capacity to cure all known diseases while simultaneously posing an existential threat to humanity. When a young girl, Amy Bellafonte, is selected as a test subject, Federal Agent Brad Wolgast is assigned to escort her to the facility. Over time, Wolgast assumes a protective, surrogate‑father role, determined to shield her from the dangers inherent in the project.
Their journey places them in direct opposition to Project Noah’s principal scientific authority, Major Nichole Sykes, as well as Clark Richards, a former CIA operative overseeing operational security and a former trainee of Wolgast. It also brings them into contact with a newly emergent and perilous race of beings contained within the facility, among them former researcher Tim Fanning and death‑row inmate Shauna Babcock.
As Project Noah’s scientists advance toward a potential cure capable of safeguarding humanity, these transformed beings begin to explore and expand their abilities, gradually approaching an escape that threatens to precipitate an unprecedented global catastrophe.
