Summary
Set in 2029, the French Riviera is placed under a stringent lockdown as a new plague begins to spread, marking the government’s initial phase of a covert initiative known as Plan D. The authorities implement an extensive network of smart‑camera surveillance throughout the region, raising significant concerns about civil liberties and state overreach. At the centre of the crisis is Professor Rieux, a committed physician who works to save infected civilians increasingly neglected by official institutions. As public tensions escalate, various actors reveal their underlying motivations: police officers flee their responsibilities, political figures exploit the situation or retreat into denial, and a minority, including Rieux and allied activists, choose to resist, emerging as emblematic figures of defiance and humanitarian resolve.
