Summary
Pluribus follows Carol Sturka, an Albuquerque‑based author who is one of only thirteen individuals worldwide unaffected by the phenomenon known as the Joining. This event, triggered by an extra-terrestrial virus, transformed the remainder of humanity into a unified, harmonious hive mind collectively referred to as the Others.
The Others maintain a benevolent stance toward those who remain independent, accommodating their needs and preferences, yet openly acknowledge that they intend to assimilate the remaining unjoined individuals once they discover a viable method. Sturka, resolutely opposed to absorption into the collective consciousness, devotes herself to identifying a means of reversing the Joining and restoring humanity’s former individuality.
